Now That Leyard Has DCI-Compliant MicroLED, Could Planar Be Next? – rAVe [PUBS]

Last week, Leyard announced a DCI-certified MicroLED 0.9mm pixel pitch cinema screen (3.8m×2m) and became the “first DCI-certified microLED product.”

DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) organization is the current international digital cinema system certification standard. Digital film systems or products without DCI certification can’t be applied or promoted in the cinema market. In Oct. 2022, Leyard’s LED cinema screen with independent intellectual property obtained DCI certification. Moreover, in Nov. 2019, the LG LED Cinema (p3.3mm, 4K) display jointly developed by Leyard and LG Electronics passed DCI certification.

Leyard says the DCI-certified microLED cinema screen adopts microLED full flip-chip packaging technology and meets the requirements of the film industry in terms of various optical parameters, including color accuracy, contrast ratio chromaticity uniformity, etc. It features an all-in-one integrated cinema playback system, supporting digital cinema standard format DCP. Its self-luminous and 100,000-hour lifetime principle gives the audience a “better viewing experience” and “fully meets the higher requirements of the cinema display market.”

Leyard’s microLED cinema screen features a modular splicing cabinet design for convenient transportation and installation, and its design is suitable for various application venues such as home cinema, audiovisual rooms, commercial VIP cinema halls, etc.

In 2016, Leyard began setting up a laboratory to develop microLED display technology. By 2020, Leyard released the latest research and development results of microLED technology and increased investment to expand the capacity of microLED mass production. In 2022, Leyard released a new generation of microLED display technology. In 2023, Leyard released the progress of microLED – MIP display technology, NPQD R1 series, using a quantum dot MicroLED chip and the “world’s first” 4K QLED display. In the future, Leyard says it will continue to focus on the innovation of microLED technology, promoting the application of microLED display products worldwide.
