Tennessee-based SDS Imports has a new offering for the always-hungry 1911 market – an easy-carrying alloy framed Commander-sized gun dubbed the Aviator.
Made in Turkey by Tisas – a firm that has received widespread acclaim for its high-quality 1911s – the Aviator uses a full-sized aluminum alloy frame to save weight, hitting the scales at 32 ounces. The "in the white" look, like that seen on World War II-era P-51 Mustangs and B-17 Flying Fortresses, comes from a protective H-151 Satin Aluminum Cerakote finish, offset by black Cerakoted surface controls and slide. Standard features are a curved A1 style mainspring housing, 70 Series internals, a GI Trigger with a 4.5 to 5-pound trigger pull, black rubber grips, and a rounded combat-style hammer. The pistol will be offered in both .45 ACP and 9mm.
The Aviator ships with an air and water-tight lockable case, a 7+1 round magazine, a cleaning kit, a bushing wrench, and an extra set of grips in brown plastic.
The MSRP on the new SDS Imports Tisas Aviator is $529, a price likely lower at retail.
